Back in April I made a big addition to my workshop- a Dewalt scroll saw. This amazing tool allows me to do an endless array of 3D wood projects and signs. I fell in love with some of the amazing scroll saw artists on Instagram and just knew this was the perfect fit and a good long-term investment for my hobby business.
Check out my very first cuts:
As I got a little more comfortable with cutting and learning about the blade differences in cutting different woods and thicknesses, I progressed myself to some lettering for a 3D boys bathroom sign:
Now, to be honest, scrolling seemed like the easy part before all the sanding, priming, sanding again & painting. Painting lettering is a process in itself I learned quickly. I'll save that for another post, but let's just say- it takes time and it's sure an art!
Here is my first finished 3D scroll saw sign ever:
Progressively I'm feeling more confidant on the saw, and challenging myself more and more with each project.
And here is a few more projects to date:
I will be honest, these last few signs were very challenging and really pushed me. I learned the degree of time and patience and love they really take! But when seeing everything come together and the 3D dimension that the scroll saw cutouts give- it's well worth every bit of effort.
Hope you enjoyed this little peak behind what I've been doing, and stay tuned for more to come!
